Goal - All forms of local government (elected or appointed officials and executive, legislative, or judicial branches) should be trustworthy, open to the public, independently monitored and accountable to an informed electorate.
Governmental Oversight Grants Program Director - Luceia V. LeDoux
Active Governmental Oversight Grants as of May 2009:
Loyola University New Orleans - Common Good - Reforming Public Institutions - The ethics review board and inspector general are the most powerful and timely vehicles that New Orleans has ever had to diminish waste, corruption and cronyism in city hall, thereby fundamentally changing the local and national perception of how our city does business. This project is meant to multiply the impact of this opportunity to transform out city's institutions.
Safe Streets/Strong Communities(SSSC) - Implementation and Community Support for Independent Police Monitor - SSSC will implement plans for an Independent Police Monitor (IPM) for the City of New Orleans. Specifically our goals are to: 1) Ensure a qualified, community-oriented monitor is appointed; 2) Educate the public about the IPM and its advantages to public safety; 3) Support IPM recommendations for reform; and 4) Organize the community to work with IPM to address public safety concerns.
