Goal - A healthy community provides its citizens an environment that creates a state of positive physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.

Active Health Grants as of August 2007:

AIDSLaw - AIDSLaw Social Security Unit - This Social Security Unit assesses clients from the area, assists clients with applications, ensures relevant medical evidence is presented in a timely manner and represents clients on appeal to help deserving clients obtain the benefits they need.

American Cancer Society – Hope Lodge - The purpose of Hope Lodge is to offer a short-term residential facility providing free housing for cancer patients who must travel into New Orleans for treatment. 

Catholic Charities* – Church Health Center Planning Program – This planning grant seeks to establish a Church Health Center to provide primary care, preventive health services, and wellness programs to the working uninsured and their families in New Orleans through partnerships with the medical, social services, and church communities in the city

Catholic Charities - Hispanic Apostolate - Hispanic Health Promoters Program – This program trains Hispanic Health Promoters and places them at six churches with Hispanic ministries to provide culturally sensitive access to preventive services and medical care for Hispanic parishioners.

Children's Hospital* - Greater New Orleans Immunization Network Booster - The Greater New Orleans Immunization Network has been a successful community outreach program since 1998.  GNOIN's mobile unit travels to five parishes and targets the underserved and uninsured population providing free immunizations and raising awareness of their importance.     

Kingsley House - Health Care for All Program - The over arching goal of Health Care for All is to improve the physical and mental health of the community.  The strategy involves door-to-door outreach and education in a defined community combined with education sessions called Home Health Parties.  The Home Health Parties promote nutrition education and mental health topics.

Louisiana Public Health Institute – Behavioral Health Action Group - This collaborative seeks to improve cohesion and quality of behavioral health treatment and prevention in the Greater New Orleans area in response to the post-Katrina behavioral health crisis. 

L.S.U. Health Sciences – St. Bernard Family Resiliency Project – This program designs, provides and evaluates critically needed evidence based behavioral health services for children and families of St. Bernard Parish who are returning after Hurricane Katrina.

Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana, Inc. – Medicaid Waiver Project - Supplement BCM staff knowledge of the structure, financing, and implications of the proposed Medicaid Waiver.

Second Harvesters Food Bank – Hurricane Katrina Response Project - Distribute critical food and water supplies and supply shelters and food pantries serving evacuees in Baker and Harahan.

Second Harvest Food Bank - Nine-A-Day the Head Start Way – This comprehensive outreach and education program provides early intervention for children living in low-income situations by expanding their access to fresh fruits and vegetables and increasing their knowledge of a healthy diet.

Second Harvest Food Bank – Community Food Security Campus Planning Grant –The intent of this planning grant is to analyze the food system of the Greater New Orleans area, identify gaps in the system, design a Community Food Security Campus, and with community stakeholders, design and implement programs to address gaps

Tulane University Health Science Center* – A Sickle Cell Day Hospital – This project proposes to establish a day hospital for adults with sickle cell disease to provide immediate and appropriate care for patients having uncomplicated painful episodes; thereby reducing ER visits, hospitalization, saving money and more importantly reducing morbidity.
