Lani Nakamura brings over 30 years of expertise in employee benefits and 15+ years of HR generalist experience to her role as Human Resources Director at BCM. She develops and manages HR policies and programs, aligning them with organizational goals to cultivate a positive workplace culture. Lani oversees recruitment, compensation, benefits, labor relations, and training, ensuring compliance and fostering employee engagement. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Zoology and is SHRM PMQ-certified, reflecting her dedication to effective talent management and professional excellence.
• What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received? “Focus on progress, not perfection.” It’s a powerful reminder that growth and learning are more important than getting everything exactly right the first – or even the second – time.
• What’s the best part of your job? Supporting the BCM team so they can perform at their best and make a meaningful impact on the community.
• Who’s your hero or someone you admire? My father. He was a brilliant man with a dry sense of humor and a profound love for his family and country. A World War II survivor, he carried his experiences with quiet strength. It wasn’t until after his passing that I discovered he had been awarded both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, which only deepened my admiration for him.
